A Fargo Fashion Lookbook

Photos By Hillary Ehlen

Each year on the first Monday in May is the notorious Met Gala, celebrating the opening of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute’s annual fashion exhibit. The event and exhibit celebrate the long-standing relationship between art and fashion and opens up the discussion of fashion as art itself.

Many state lines away, we are not in the Upper East Side of New York City, but we are in Fargo-Moorhead. However, this is not to say that fashion doesn’t exist here in the midwest. In fact, it is quite the opposite. Locally, shops and boutiques set the pace of what will be seen on the streets of downtown Fargo.

This month, we met in our very own art museum, The Rourke Art Gallery + Museum, and recruited some local artists to model looks from nearby boutiques. In a town like Fargo, no one industry stands alone, but instead, they are all intermingled and supportive of one another. We selected young, local artists as our models to showcase the art of styling, but also to celebrate the unity of sectors that make Fargo so special.

These artists embody what it means to be an artist in Fargo while also showcasing the variety of styles available in the area. No matter your age, price range, size or style, our area has shopping that will be sure to satisfy your needs.
