Describe what type of products you make under Brenna M & Co?
I create mental health awareness apparel and accessories, along with handsewn carry-all bags, tote bags, and crochet flowers.
Tell us how you got started with your business back in 2020!
Throughout my life, I have faced challenges with my mental health. From being a three-sport athlete in high school to competing as a student-athlete in college, the pressure to succeed often felt overwhelming. When I was sent home during my sophomore year of college, due to COVID-19, I noticed that many people around me were also struggling mentally, affected by the uncertainty and isolation of the time. Back then, mental health wasn’t widely discussed, but I felt a strong desire to be part of the change and start the conversation.
What are your personal favorite items you’ve created so far?
My personal favorite creations so far are my makeup/carry-all bags and lip balm holders. As someone who tends to misplace things easily, I love that both of these pieces help me stay organized.
What was one of your most difficult pieces you’ve created?
One of the most challenging pieces I’ve created is my makeup/carry-all bags— not because they’re difficult to design, but because they take so much time and care to sew!
What is your most popular item you sell currently?
My most popular items that I sell currently are my Overstimulated t-shirt and crewneck!
What is something you’ve enjoyed the most about doing this handcrafted business?
What is the most challenging thing?
The most challenging part of running my own small business is staying motivated, especially during the slower periods. But I always remind myself of my “why,” and that keeps me moving forward.
You have a super fun variety of products from apparel to crocheted flowers! Where does your inspo come from for new products you create?
I draw inspiration for new products from everywhere—both online and in the world around me.
You have a huge following on social media like Instagram and TikTok! Tell us how this has influenced your handmade business.
Social media has played a huge role in my business. I’ve built an amazing community across all my platforms, where I love sharing behind-the-scenes glimpses of my day-to-day work while also showcasing my products. Whenever someone asks me how to grow a following, I always tell them to be authentic and share what genuinely matters to them. People want to see the face behind the brand—they want to relate to you. That connection builds trust and shows that the products you create are 100% a reflection of who you are.
What is a word that best describes you?
Funky.
What advice would you give to someone else looking to start a handcrafted/maker business?
Try not to compare yourself to others. Businesses grow at their own pace, and that’s perfectly okay. As long as you stay consistent—no matter what you’re posting about—and keep showing up, everything will fall into place exactly as it’s meant to.
What advice would you have given yourself five years ago?
The advice I would give myself five years ago is to celebrate every small milestone, truly savor each moment, stay true to yourself, and never doubt the decisions you’ve made.
